BENJAMIN D. WURTZEL

Benjamin D. Wurtzel is a Florida Bar Board-Certified Criminal Trial Attorney defending the rights of individuals throughout Central Florida.  In awarding him the distinction of Board Certification, the Florida Bar has recognized Mr. Wurtzel as an expert in the area of criminal trial law.   Mr. Wurtzel handles all aspects of criminal defense litigation and his practice is 100% devoted to criminal defense.

A Central Florida native, Mr. Wurtzel grew up in Maitland, FL and graduated from Winter Park High School.  His entire legal career has been in the Central Florida area. Prior to opening Wurtzel Law, Mr. Wurtzel served as an Assistant Public Defender for seven years for the Ninth Judicial Circuit in Orange County, FL. During his time as an Assistant Public Defender, Mr. Wurtzel handled thousands of criminal cases, representing individuals in pre-trial, trial, appellate and post-conviction matters.  Mr. Wurtzel has extensive courtroom experience and has served as lead counsel in jury trials ranging from criminal traffic and misdemeanor offenses to first-degree and life felonies.  Mr. Wurtzel also has substantial experience handling violations of probation, including motions for early termination and/or modification of probation. 

In addition to his law practice, Mr. Wurtzel is an active member of both the state and local criminal defense communities.  Mr. Wurtzel is a Past President of the Central Florida Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys and is a Director at Large on the Board of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He is a member of the Orange County Bar Association and is a former President of the Rotary Club of Maitland.

Lori Wurtzel is an Attorney with a long history of service to the Central Florida community, beginning her career as an Assistant Public Defender for the Ninth Judicial Circuit in Orange County, FL. During her time as an Assistant Public Defender, Ms. Wurtzel handled thousands of criminal cases and developed a specialized area of practice in issues related to sex offender designations, violations of probation and parole, post-conviction work, administrative issues and juvenile offenses.  

In private practice, Ms. Wurtzel focuses her work on the collateral legal issues of our criminal clients. These issues include family law (paternity/support, extended family custody, contested adoptions), civil injunctions and intentional tort defense, dependency/juvenile matters, as well as appeals and post-conviction issues. Additionally, Ms. Wurtzel can help clients with issues related to professional licensing, school disciplinary hearings, and Baker Act/Marchman Act proceedings.

Lori Wurtzel is also passionate about our Central Florida community, serving as an elected council member for the City of Maitland. Lori is passionate about criminal justice reform, volunteering for the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition, and serving as a member of the Juvenile Justice Committee and Women’s Rights Committee at The League of Women Voters Orlando.  Ms. Wurtzel is a Committee Chair for Florida Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys, as well as for the Orange County Bar, and is a member of The Florida Bar Law-Related Education Committee.
